Hello, I have installed tables39.tar.gz and stsdas39.tar.gz on ubuntu 8.10 along with iraf 2.14.
I followed the installation guide, (it has an installation example), using the redhat binaries, since I couldn't find for generic linux.
After all the steps taken, when testing tables
imtab devpix$[250,*] pix_table.fits colname='flux' pname='pos'I receive the following error message:ERROR: Cannot open connected subprocess (./xttools.e)also for tstat pix_table.fits
When checking tables.summ I found! grep -v ':$' spool | grep -v '^xc' | grep -v '^ar' | grep -v '^check file'

NOTE: CFITSIO will be used for FITS tables.
NOTE: CFITSIO does not support IRAF networking.
I have edited de extern.pkg as in the example
(except using /iraf/extern/tables/ for the reset field) , the libtbtables.a is actually at bin.redhat/ and also at /tables/lib/Note, at the mkpkg tables
no error messages
then at mkpkg -p tables updtate >& spool I get
ERROR, it woulld overwrite spool file (sort of )Thank you in advance

If you're on Ubuntu, the binaries need to be in the package 'bin.linux' directory. You can use Redhat binaries, just don't actually put them in a bin.redhat directory, they won't be found (that's what 'cannot open connected subprocess' is telling you).-Mike

Excelent!
I moved those files to the bin.linux directories(stsdas and tables)!
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes!
