Does anyone know how to get xgterm to open simultaneously displaying both
the graphics and text windows? I can get the configuration I want by opening
an xgterm, and ctl-rightbutton to get menu, and check Show Graphics Window,
but I want to set the resources to get this all the time without the menu clicks. I've tried fiddling with .Xresources, adding things like XGterm*showtek: true
but nothing seems to work. I'll be using IRAF in a class, and the better I can
set up the environment the happier everyone will be.System is 2.14 running on RHEL 5.ThanksPat Hartigan

Hi Pat,Sorry, it can't be done with either Xterm or XGTerm. The best that can be done is to use the '-t' flag to startup in Tek mode, but it turns out this doesn't work in XGterm due to initialization problems. The menu options call a translation procedure, not a resource setting. The graphics window will open when a plot is first created, even if you could open it up then all you'd see is a blank window (I'm not sure how that would be helpful in a classroom setting).Since I'm working on X11IRAF anyway I'll see if I can make this an option easily, but can't promise anything.Cheers,
-Mike

Thanks Mike. That's not so bad, actually.
I was trying to get away from telling students to CTL-click-right button, which
for some 1-button Macs I'm sure would be exciting (I'm serving this as an X11
application from a linux box where students will have accounts, or at least
that's the plan this year!). But as long as the graphics window pops up
automatically I guess they don't need to know it is there until they use it.Pat
