Hey again
After trying various things to get IRAF wroking in cygwin i have decided to star from scratch including reinstalling cygwin.
I previously performed eveything in the bash shell, this time i was going to try using xterm, i started up start X ok, however when trying to run xterm (from the icon in the start menu) i got the following error message popup:A fatal error has occurred and Cygwin/X will now exit.
Please open /tmp/XWin.log for more informationVendor: The Cygwin/X Project
Release: 6.8.99.901-4
Contact: cygwin-xfree@cygwin.comXwin was started with the following command line:
/usr/X11R6/bin/XWin -multiwindow -clipboard -silent-dup-error
I think this is the XWin.log it suggested
_XSERVTransSocketINETCreateListener: ...SocketCreateListener() failed
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: server already runningFatal server error:
Cannot establish any listening sockets - Make sure an X server isn't already runningAny help would be greatly appreciated cheers

DS9 is not an IRAF task, so you'll need to escape it to start, e.g.[code:1:f9a8cac634]cl> !ds9 &[/code:1:f9a8cac634]This requires that DS9 be in your path, or that you specify the full path to the binary.-Mike
