Mike, et al---Now that IRAF is no longer NOAO-supported, what is the proper way of
acknowledging it in a publication? I still see "IRAF is distributed by the
National Optical Astronomy Observatories...." But, that's not really true
any more, is it? thanks,
phil

Hi Phil,I'd first call your attention to the new lead story on the homepage and the NOAO Newsletter article accompanying it. Regardless, the bulk of what makes IRAF still work, and your papers get published, is the result of development done back in the day and paid for with your tax dollars. One sure way to make enemies would be for this site to try to claim credit for the 20 years of earlier good work. So, as far as I'm concerned, the same old acknowledgement still applies and the credit goes to AURA/NOAO as before. That said, if iraf.net or its readers did something above and beyond the call that you think deserves a separate acknowledgement, I wouldn't discourage you from using whatever phrasing you think is appropriate. Thanks for asking.Cheers,
-Mike
