Hi, I've been trying to install the x11iraf stuff on my machine,
to be able to use xgterm to plot in the tektronics window through IRAF.
I am running Red Hat Linux 3.3.3-7I downloaded the x11iraf-v1.3.1-bin.redhat.tar.gz file from your
web site, and went through the ./install. It looked like it went
ok, but when I typed `xgterm' from another window, I got a message:xgterm: error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryAny ideas? Am I missing something? Or should I be using something
else beside xgterm to get a `terminal/tektronics' pair of windows to
plot with? Beverly Smith

You can use the binaries just posted tohttps://iraf.net/ftp/iraf/x11iraf/x11iraf-v1.5DEV-bin.redhat.tar.gzThese were built on a similar system and will look for the libncurses.so.5 on your system. Alternatively you can log in as 'root' and create a link for the library, e.g.[code:1:e53f5abc36]# cd /usr/lib
# ln -s libncurses.so.5 libncurses.so.4[/code:1:e53f5abc36]Cheers,
-Mike

Dear Mike, Thanks for your response about xgterm. I appreciate
the fast response.I installed the new version of xgterm, and no longer get
the library error. But now I get a different error:
a `floating exception (core dumped)''
error message when I type `xgterm'. I tried both copying over the binaries, and
running ./install , and got the same message. Any suggestions?
I put the core dump at
http://www.etsu.edu/physics/bsmith/core.10207
if you know how to read core dumps. I don't know where xgterm is
crashing.....I also tried the directions for building from source, but when I tried I got:xmkmf
imake -DUseInstalled -I/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/config
imake: No such file or directory
imake: No description file.
Stop.Any ideas?Bev

Hi Bev,The link to the core file doesn't work for me. To build from source you'll need to have the X11 development stuff installed, you might also try the binary at ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub/xgterm.fedora. This version may have the same libncurses problem but was built using something more similar to the system you're using.Hope this helps,
-Mike
