See the message at https://iraf.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85797 for a link to a fixed binary. Post back with your IRAF and OSX type if you think you're having a different problem.-Mike

IRAF-Version: 2.13-Beta2
OSX-Version: 10.4.9 on a INTELany ideas?gerhard

Hi Fitz
sorry, i'm new and unexperienced with using a mac and more or less with iraf, too. should i just replace the old x_dataio.x with the new x_dataio.e you've sent me with the link?besides that, i tried to install it again and still get messages as mentioned before.the interessting point is, that the first time i run rfits (or any other task from dataio) i do not get any error message and no outputfiles. if i run the task for the second time, i get the well known message, given below. (dataio is already loaded with login.cl)ecl> epar rfits
:g
ecl> rfits
ERROR: Abnormal termination of child process 'bin$x_dataio.e'
furthermore, if i run the task rfits without 'epar' it seems, that the task doesn't look for the outputfilename.dataio> rfits
FITS data source (rrlyr-022B.fit):
File/extensions list:
dataio> rfits
ERROR: Abnormal termination of child process 'bin$x_dataio.e'
dataio> sorry, if i bother you with my beginners questions
kind regards, Gerhard

Gerhard,[quote:93f3dbdfae]...hould i just replace the old x_dataio.x with the new x_dataio.e you've sent me with the link? [/quote:93f3dbdfae]Right. The file will need to be renamed 'x_dataio.e' and should go in the /iraf/irafbin/bin.macintel directory. Be sure it is executable, i.e. at the unix prompt you should be able to start it with "./x_dataio.e" to see a '>' prompt (type 'bye' to quit it), or else make it executable with the command "chmod 755 x_dataio.e". Back in IRAF the command "cl> dir bin$x_dataio.e long+" should show a recent file date on the file. You might try an "unlearn rfits" as well, but the rest of your problems may simply be due to a mis-installation of the patched binary. Post back if you still have problems.-Mike
