From www.gemini.edu I noticed that there is a new version of the Gemini package. Since I just did an entire install of v2.13b2, I would like to install it. Normally, no problem, [b:b06e6efb21]*BUT*[/b:b06e6efb21] Gemini warns not to use v2.13b2. I live on the edge, so I [b:b06e6efb21]*did*[/b:b06e6efb21] install it, but I would like to get the fix in FITCOORDS. So, I downloaded their package and copied the [code:1:b06e6efb21]fcgetcoords.x[/code:1:b06e6efb21] file to [code:1:b06e6efb21]/iraf/iraf/noao/twodspec/longslit/transform/[/code:1:b06e6efb21] as suggested, but this means that my binary [code:1:b06e6efb21]x_longslit.e[/code:1:b06e6efb21] (which they only provide for mac intel) in [code:1:b06e6efb21]/iraf/irafbin/noao.bin.redhat/[/code:1:b06e6efb21] is not good anymore.Since in the Gentoo x64_64 topic was mentioned already by fritz, compiling isn't supported yet, so my question is:[i:b06e6efb21]Is it possible for the IRAF maintainers to update the Gemini package and give out an update for the NOAO binary?!?[/i:b06e6efb21]

Hi Eduard(?),I'm also using gemini 1.9.1 with IRAF 2.13b2 and have done a modest amount of gmos data processing without problems so far (well, there was one brief problem that is now fixed, as long as you downloaded the gemini 1.9.1 patch after ~28 December). I think the issue is mainly that the gemini package hasn't been tested properly under 2.13 yet and so isn't properly supported or guaranteed to work. In practice, you may be lucky :-). It would be useful to know if you have problems, but I'm not sure how quickly they'll be dealt with.I thought I had seen fitcoords binaries for other platforms linked from the Gemini Web page, but now I can't spot any. I can send the 32-bit linux binary I'm using, if you want. I don't think I can attach it here -- are you still at Stromlo (do I have the right person)?Cheers,James.

The patched FITCOORDS binary (i.e. x_longslit.e) is available for a number of platforms from https://iraf.net/ftp/pub. Download and install in the appropriate noao$bin.<arch> directory and be sure to rename as 'x_longslit.e' and set the execute permissions (e.g. "chmod 755 x_longslit.e"). The GEMINI V1.9.1 patch contains only updates to CL scripts, help pages and calibration data, so there are no binaries to update. Binaries for most external packages, including GEMINI, are available in https://iraf.net/ftp/iraf/extern or from the Downloads link above. As for "living on the edge", the V2.13 release may still be called a Beta (so is GMail for that matter) but it is very stable. Final work pending is still just new features and enhancements and packaging. The system is very well supported at this site, questions about how quickly something will be dealt with should be answered by the GEMINI developers. In any case, I wouldn't be expecting an update to the V2.12 releases any time soon.Cheers,
-Mike

Yes, that's correct Wink[quote:3be17849e1]I think the issue is mainly that the gemini package hasn't been tested properly under 2.13 yet and so isn't properly supported or guaranteed to work.[/quote:3be17849e1] and [quote:3be17849e1]As for "living on the edge", the V2.13 release may still be called a Beta (so is GMail for that matter) but it is very stable.[/quote:3be17849e1]
I didn't mean any disrespect... You're doing a great job! The only reason why I said so was because Gemini does not warrant any success. If you'd see my own computer, you'll see several beta packages Wink[quote:3be17849e1]The patched FITCOORDS binary (i.e. x_longslit.e) is available for a number of platforms from https://iraf.net/ftp/pub[/quote:3be17849e1]
I'm currently getting a 403 permission denied as soon as I want to download it. Viewing the listing isn't a problem, getting the file is.Thanks for the quick responses!!![edit]
