Hello!I've just started to work with iraf, so I hope my problem woundn't be so basic...I installed the IRAF system on a Kubuntu 5.10, with the debian's packages described at ftp://iraf.noao.edu/contrib/debian.readme . (apt-get install iraf ; apt-get install iraf-common)After the installation, I did run mkiraf and selected the xterm as terminal. When I tried to run the task "rfist", this message apears:
"PANIC in `/usr/lib/iraf/iraf/bin/x_dataio.e': Memory has been corrupted"
This apears every time. "unlearn rfits" don't change anything...What is wrong? Can someone help me?Thank You,
Moser

It sounds like the "stacksize" problem, although the Debian package is in other ways broken as well. To test it out, reset the stacksize on the command line or in your .cshrc/.bashrc file before starting the CL. For example[code:1:596ede905e]
linux% limit stacksize unlimited [for c-shell]
linux% ulimit -s unlimited [for bash]
[/code:1:596ede905e]More recent releases put this in the cl.csh startup script so it's done automatically, the debian package however hasn't been updated in a while and I believe the maintainer has moved on.Cheers,
-Mike
