Hi,I've been using the ellipse task in isophote in stsdas for a while
successfully at the CfA. After not having used it for maybe a month
and a half, I've run into problems running the scripts or any task in
ellipse. I get the message,ERROR on line 5960: Invalid image section ([0:0:0,0:0:0])I can't figure out how to get around this or what it means although I
have never tried to go into the source code for IRAF tasks like
yours. Do you know what I can do to get around this?thanks, Pat Kelly

Hi Patrick,
I'm copying your message to the STScI help desk (help@stsci.edu)
since ELLIPSE is their task and we're not too familiar with it. The
error message is coming from some system routine trying to parse an
image specification, but the "ERROR on line 5960" looks like it's
coming from a script. Is this your script calling the task or are
you doing this from the "cl>" prompt directly?
The task appears to also look for a .pl mask (or dqf) file
and will open it automatically but I can't say whether this is related
to your problem. You might however look for an image of the same name,
or if this is your script, for a filename problem. Note that the new
ECL (available from our homepage) will print the correct line number
and may help you track down the problem. Otherwise, the ST folks should
be able to help.Regards,
Mike Fitzpatrick
--------------------------NOTE: As of Jan 1, 2006 NOAO will no longer be operating a HelpDesk for
IRAF at iraf@noao.edu. Support is being moved to a forum-based system
at https://iraf.net, please post future questions to that site. Thanks.
