Hi.I have installed IRAF on a machine running RedHat Enterprise ES release 4
and all seems well except for tape access at this point. I have an Exabyte
8mm Eliant tape drive installed which is working OK. I have the tapecap
file configured to access the drive as an 8200 or 8505 model. In the
system /dev directory it lists st0, st0a, st0l, st0m and nst0, nst0a, nst0l,
nst0m, as well as tape, tape1, tape2, tape3 which are symbolic links to
nst0, nst0a, etc. I used the st0* and nst0* devices in my tapecap file.
A copy of the tapecap is attached.Under IRAF, xtapemon senses the drive. However, a warning
message is generated> allocate mta
Warning: cannot open device nst0or> allocate mtb
Warning: cannot open device nst0aand rewind or rfits produces a similar message and no read occurs.
mta (or mtb) remain allocated and have to be deallocated before
closing IRAF.Have I made a simple blunder or is there something else to be
changed? I did give universal rw access to st0* and nst0*.Many thanks.Don Martins
