Hi Jonathan,
There is a more recent snapshot release at ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub/fitz/x11iraf-v1.3.2-bin.redhat.tar.gzthat should fix the 'h_errno' message but won't do anything to fix the
colormap issues. Gnome/KDE are "desktops", the "window manager"
underneath is something like Metacity, Enlightenment, etc. Using
DS9 is probably the simplest way to avoid all this, otherwise you'll
need to deal with the colormap flashing and focus problems. The control
panel should let you select a different window manager (if one is
installed), otherwise see something like http://sparky.rice.edu/~hartigan/vnc.htmlfor a way to use VNC running in 8-bit mode for using ximtool (this
will likely use an "old" window manager like Motif or twm that will
handle the colormap focus properly).Cheers,

I made sure that the XImtool was receiving the focus and it was still
not making the color map correctly.
I switched from Gnome to KDE and the problem persisted.
Also the XImtool gives the following error when run:
Incorrectly built binary which accesses errno or h_errno directly.
Needs to be fixed.
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "blue2"
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "purple4"
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "gray61"
Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "gray91"
Any further help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jonathan Feldman
