Hi;
I have recently installed GUIAPPS on my Linux machine (64 bit dual Opteron
processor, running Fedora Core 2), and I am having some difficulties with both
xgphot and xguiphot (I need elliptical apertures, and those seem to be the tasks
that allow for that). When I run them, the new GUI opens up (no image
displayed), and a large number of Warnings, such as:xgterm: warning, error event received:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 72 (X_PutImage)
Serial number of failed request: 2761
Current serial number in output stream: 2765If I try to resize the Window at at all, the program (and the xgterm!) dies. Is
this something you have seen before, or? Just wondering if this is a known
issue (or problem) related to my OS handing xguiapps, or something more subtle?I am running IRAF v2.12.2, and installed the latest version of guiapps.tar.gz
this morning. Best Regards Pat Durrell----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Pat,
The GUIAPPS tasks use the same Gterm graphics/imaging widget as
XImtool and so you're seeing the 8-bit limitation of the widget (i.e.
you're probably using a 24-bit display). In this case there is no
workaround other than to use an 8-bit display (or put the GUI on a
VNC window running 8-bits). The XGPHOT task *should* still be usable
with only an xgterm graphics display or noninteractively, but for the
GUI version you'll need an 8-bit visual. Hope this helps, let us know
if you still have problems.Regards,
Mike Fitzpatrick
