031223Hi Phillip, as a follow up ... regarding:
generate PS file from IRAF imexam window, using ":.snap"1) I noticed, that the output file has a different scale
along x than y for the contour plot. Is there a way to
get the scale the same?2) On a similar note, when the "imexam" contour plot is
displayed on screen, there is usually the same problem.
I always have to fiddle around with the window size and
repeat the contour plot untile I get it right.
Howe else could one see if the images are round?
My suggestion is to change the source code to force
the same scale (pixels) in x and y for such plots.Merry Christmas,
Norbert

However, upon further investigation, I found something that is very much
like what you describe. This is when using :.snap epsf (or epsl, etc.),
I see a square frame (even if I do ":ncolumns 15" and ":nlines 15"), the
eps plot appears rectangular rather than the expected square. Is this
consistent with what you are experiencing?I found (and this may be a temporary solution for you) that if I used
the "psdump" device, i.e.,":.snap psdump", which outputs the psfile
to /tmp/irafdmpXXXX.ps (where XXXX is the process number) the plot was
what I expected. With respect to correcting the expected view in the
eps plots, I'll discuss this with the IRAF programmers to see what can
be done.I hope that helps in the meantime. Please let us know if you have
further questions or problems.Cheers, and Merry Christmas to you too!Phillip

031229Hi Phillip,
thanks again for your fast reply. The ":.snap psdump" worked
better, with about equal scales in x and y for the contour plot.Norbert
