`personal' installation of IRAF external package

Hi folks - I'm trying to get the mosaic package running under
solaris in the `personal' mode and I'm finding the installation
instructions slightly confusing. You have the `site' and
`personal' instructions separted nicely at the first step
(i.e. [1-site], [1-personal]) but after that step the
separation is not so clear.I downloaded the mscred-bin.ssun.Z file to a local
disk (curiously it downloads not as a UNIX compressed
file despite the name). Then:setenv mscred /home/atacama/bolte/iraf/mscred/Next, in my loginuser.cl file i added:reset mscred = /home/atacama/bolte/iraf/mscred/
#reset mscdb = /home/atacama/bolte/iraf/mscdb/
task mscred.pkg = mscred$mscred.cl
printf ("reset helpdb=%s,mscred$lib/helpdb.mip\nkeep\n",envget("helpdb")) | cl
flprNote that I'm not quite sure what to do about the mscdb stuff. In the
later example in the Installation File for ftp'ing files it
says that getting the mscdb.tar.Z file is `optional'.I next fire up IRAF and:cl> mscred
ERROR: task `mscred' has no param fileI'm pretty clueless about these procedures and any help
offered would be appreciated!Mike Bolte

Hi Mike,
For any external package you'll need to install the source archive
file, in this case 'mscred.tar.Z', since this contains the various parameter,
help and other runtime files. The binary distributions will only save you
compiling the package locally but don't comprise a full package in them-
selves. So, you'll need to download mscred.tar.Z and mscred-bin.ssun.Z.
To use them, unpack *both* files in your /home/atacama/bolte/iraf/mscred
directory, your loginuser.cl entries look good but be sure there is a
'keep' as the last statement in the file.
Hope this helps, let us know if you still have questions.Cheers,
Mike Fitzpatrick
