Hi, I've run into a problem. I'm reducing some R=600,000 data with
DOECSLIT. All works nominally up until the dispersion correction stage. I can
mark and identify the ThAr lines (I have 4; 4299.6348, 4299.8393, 4300.1008 &
4300.6495) but when I hit the "f" key to fit the dispersion, all I get is a line
in the tektronix (plot) window listing the parameters of the last id (or if I do
a ".", then the next f echoes the parameters for that id). When I ran
"identify" I did not have this problem, there it was happy fitting the
dispersion. I have tried removing all references to data base ThAr-line files,
and while that was necessary for "identify", for DOECSLIT it makes no
difference. Suggestions? (running IRAF V2.11.2)
Cheers & Thanks!

Hello B-G,DOECSLIT uses "ecidentify", not "identify". The primary difference is
that the former also fits dispersion parameter changes across lines and
as a result more features must be marked before the "f"itting option
becomes available. The help page says a minimum of four features over
at least two orders, but better to mark a few more features in other
orders if possible. You can use "j" and "k" to scroll through the lines,
or "o" to go to a specific aperture number (not order number, since that's
often not known at this stage). Hope this helps,Dave
