Subject: "no param file"Hi Mike,To test my system, I typed in the little script named "printit.cl", as
given in the "Introductory User's Guide to IRAF Scripts", page 19. I put
it in the same directory as the rdpds3.cl script, declared it as a task
withtask = /home/bcooper/bin/printit.clthen tried it. I got the same error message that I did with rdpds3.cl,
which is that my computer claims it has no param file. The FORTRAN programs that I put in /home/bcooper/bin and declared as
foreign tasks are working fine. What should I try next?
Thanks

Subject: rdpds3: new error message from much further inside the programHi Mike,I had ftp'd the rdpds3.cl to the LINUX machine from my PC, with the
"binary" setting turned on. So when it was on the LINUX box, and I opened
it with VI, it had the message [dos] on the bottom of the window. I
didn't notice that until today. I FTP'd it again, this time with the FTP
set to "ASCII", and now it seems to be willing to consider rdpds3.cl as a
program. However, it now gives me the error message "error on line 74:
attempt to access undefined local variable 'nchars'. Would you tell me
how to fix this?Thanks

Subject: Re: rdpds3: new error message from much further inside the programHi Bonnie,
The '[dos]' thing probably came about because DOS files use CR-LF
instead of just a LF and the extra binary character was confusing the CL.
I don't understand the new problem unless the image doesn't contain an
"IMAGE HISTOGRAM" keyword which is used to find the header offset. Either
that or there is still some weird character in the file.
You could try typing "d_trace" before running the script to see
exactly where the error is happening, using 'vi' on the file should show
any control chars as e.g. "^M". Otherwise try initializing the nchars
variable in the script to say zero so it has some value. If that doesn't
help send me the output of the d_trace.Cheers,
-Mike
