Hi George,
As long as you've got a 9-track drive available there shouldn't be
any reason why IRAF couldn't read the tape. The default tapecap files do
contain example entries for 9-track drives at different densities, if you
let me know what the host device name is and what OS you are using I can't
point you to some default device or suggest a tapecap entry for the drive.
There are also ways to access drives on remote machines using iraf networking,
if iraf isn't installed there it's possible to set up a "kernel server kit"
to oallow remote tape access. Lastly, if this really is just a FITS tape
you can always use host commands such as "dd" to pull of images to disk
one at a time, we can send you a script to do this.
