Hi there,I have a problem when running "apall" from apextract package and I
wonder if you could help me:When I try to extract the 1-D spectra from a 2-D long-slit spectra I get
the following error:' Panic in '/usr/local/iraf/iraf/noao/bin.redhat/x_apextract.e' : salloc
underflow 'I have used this same routine in the past without any problem - it is
not some "bad" parameter.I think there maybe two options: (or a combination of two?)
1. The installation of IRAF is not correct (I did it myself)
2. Something is wrong with the file (lathough it looks correct when
displayed )
If you could gave me a hint I would be very grateful. If you need more
specific information, please
tell me.
Thanks a lot in advance,Cheers

Hi Isabel,
Frank Valdes would be the best person to respond to your question but
he is out of town until next week. A 'salloc underflow' usually means this
is a memory error of some kind, triggered perhaps by a parameter setting or
perhaps it's data dependent. To find out which, see whether the error happens
with all images or just this one, and if so then try resetting various
parameters you've changed from the default until you figure out which one
may be causing the error.
In either case Frank may need to see your task parameters and the
data, could you put a problem FITS image on iraf.noao.edu in the /pub
directory, and send along the task parameters you used (i.e. do "dpar apall"
and send the results, I'll forward them to Frank who should get back to
you as soon as he returns).Regards,
Mike Fitzpatrick
