Problems with directly TAR'ed .imh images

Hi - (sadly!) I have got a TAR tape which contains directly
TAR'ed iraf .imh and .pix files. I cannot convert these to
FITS with WFITS since it seems to always point to the
original directory stucture frozen into the .imh header lines.
Is there any way around this problem? (I know that the files
should really have been conveted to FITS before TAR'ing, but.....!)Cheers,
