IRAF Support: I have recently installed Sun/IRAF V2.11/Solaris 2.5, and
saoimage.sun4_411. I am having a problem with the external package
"finder". When I use tfinder to read in GSC stars, the CCD image is
displayed properly with the GSC stars circled in red. The next step is,
with the cursor in the image and on a circle, "a" and then "j" is
supposed to centroid the stars and many of the red circles turn blue.
This process works properly on a LINUX IRAF system. However, on the
Sun, I just get the image and the red circles re-displayed, with no
centroiding done. All other aspects of using saoimage and IRAF appear
to be working fine. The cursor on the image is working properly. I
have run the recommended tests on saoimage by itself and all was exactly
as required.
The only difference I can detect between the LINUX and Sun "finder"
actions is a request after the "aj" for a reference coordinates list.
This appears to be generated or used automatically in my LINUX system,
but not on the Sun. I have tried a huge number of variations of this
procedure with the same results - no centroiding and no blue circles. I know "finder" is an external program but I wonder if you could point
me to some assistance. Thank you. Phil Somers

package installed (probably wouldn't have gotten that far otherwise).> The only difference I can detect between the LINUX and Sun "finder"

funny parameter settings were applied.Rob Seaman

Phil,> Yes indeed! It was an old version. I don't know where my friend who
