The bug only seems to affect the FITS kernel.
On ursa:/scr1/JUNK/
you will find 250 copies of dev$pix[1:10,1:10] as "imh" and "fits" files.
cl> hselect *.imh DEW-TEMP yes # works ok.
cl> hselect test*.fits DEW-TEMP yes...180.95
-180.95
