Date sent: 10-MAR-1997 16:41:58 Hi, The tapedrive on the machine that IRAF sits on here has died, and there
is no will/money to replace it. There is however tapedrives on other machines
on the same local sun network. Is there some way to tell IRAF to use that "
neighbouring" tapedrive?Cheers & Thanks,B-G

Hi B-G,
You can use drives on remote machines provided you've got IRAF
available on that machine and have enabled iraf networking between the
machines. The drive is then accessed using a node! prefix, for example
"allocate ursa!mta". To make IRAF available on remote machines you can
usually just NFS mount the IRAF disk (if it's the same kind of machine)
and run the install script on the client node, yo'll still need to make
sure you've got the tapecap configured correctly for the drive. To
enable IRAF networking just edit the dev$hosts file with the names of
all the machines in the network, you can use the existing entries to
get an idea of what the entries look like.
Hope this helps, let me know if you still have questions or problems.Cheers,
Mike Fitzpatrick
