Hi Jeff,
By "plotting capability" I assume you mean vector graphics? There
are efforts underway now to provide C bindings to the various IRAF system
interfaces (graphics, image I/O, etc) and prototypes are already available,
however they are not exportable as a standalone graphics system for other
applications. This has to do with the way the system architecture is set
up rather than some kind of license issue, it sounds like you just want some
kind of graphics package. You might have a look at something like PGPLOT
(http://astro.caltech.edu/~tjp/pgplot).
We do however have a public interface for displaying images to
servers such as XImtool and SAOimage, if you're interested in that let me
know. Hope this helps.Cheers,
Mike Fitzpatrick

Hi Jeff,
Doug Tody seemed to get the impression from your phone call that you
were mostly interested in image *display* rather that vector graphics plotting
of images as I'd thought, so I'll expand a bit more about that. IRAF does
image display using a display server such as SAOimage or XImtool, the client
display task is too tightly integrated into IRAF to be exportable as a separate
product. However, we have just developed a library for C or Fotran programs
to allow outside users to easily write image display and marking programs
(e.g. what you could get from the DISPLAY or TVMARK tasks), as well as just
finishing a major new release of the XImtool display server. Unfortunately
we're in the midst of preparing the distributions for these so their ftp
locations will change in the next few days. Currently XImtool binaries are
available in iraf.noao.edu:/pub/v2103-beta but will soon move to /iraf/x11iraf
with the new release. The Client Display Library (CDL) is available as a
beta version as iraf.noao.edu:/pub/cdl.tar.Z and will probably move to
/iraf/extern when the final release is done. Announcements for both of these
will be posted to our web page at http://iraf.noao.edu when ready.
Hope this helps, if you could tell me a bit more about what you're
trying to do I might have other suggestions as well.Cheers,
Mike Fitzpatrick
