Hi Patrick,
The numeric pad keys are usually remapped to output escape sequences
for cursor arrow movements or specialized function codes. This is either
done in a /etc/termcap file (on BSD systems), in /usr/local/terminfo (on
SYSV systems), or they can be modified by an 'xmodmap' command normally in
your .xinitrc file. Basically, this is a host configuration thing depending
on your X setup; You can map arrow keys separate from the numeric keypad if
you have those available (e.g. on some DEC keyboards), but if you can't use
the numeric pad outside of IRAF you can't use it in epar. There is a way in
IRAF to map the keys using the e.g. dev$vi.ed file, but these are normally
used to move the cursor up/down in epar rather than for text entry.
Let me know if you still have problems or questions about this.Cheers,
Mike Fitzpatrick
