Hi! When I use the comands a, j, k, s, r, etc, they do not seem to give the answer form the location where the cursor (circle) is, but fron somewhere else. i.e. if I place the cursor on a star the look is as if it where from the backfground. Any help will be appreciated.

This has come up a number of times over the years, but never with a definite cause. In some cases, the cursor position is read incorrectly because of a bug in the version of DS9 being used to display (be sure to use the latest), at other times it can happen when the image is loaded via the DS9 'File' menu rather than through an IRAF display, or if the IRAF display sets the 'fill' parameter to scale the image to a frame buffer size too big/small for the image.
The default 'stdimage' frame buffer size is 'imt512' for z 512x512 size, depending on how the 'fill' parameter for DISPLAY is set the image will either be scaled to cropped to fit that size. If you use the dev$pix test image there shouldn't be any scaling so you can use it to test whether the position is read correctly. If so, you may need to adjust your stdimage to a more appropriate size or do an "unlearn display".
I'm assuming you aren't seeing issues with window focus or the cursor warping to a new position, these may be indications of a problem with the window manager. To help debug this, you can use the RIMCURSOR task to simply do an image cursor read to see what values are being used. If the problems continue, it would also help to know what version of IRAF you're using, how it was installed and how the image was loaded.
