My question is old. I saw the answers from internet but not solved. My problem is :
I can run IRAF 2.16.1 at my PC (running Fedora), BUT for some reason I want run IRAF2.16.1 at my old PC (running Redhat9.0).

while installing IRAF2.16.1 the error showes
:
/lib/i686/libc.so.6 version GLIBC_2.3 not found (required by xgterm).

My old PC can not install Fedora, it has small memory and disk.

Is it possible to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance

Yba

The message is caused by a difference between the Glibc libraries installed on your system and the shared libs used when compiling the binary. You can usually work around this using a statically linked binary, See for example

https://iraf.net/ftp/pub/xgterm.LNUX.STATIC
https://iraf.net/ftp/pub/ximtool.LNUX.STATIC

Download these in binary mode, reset the execute permissions and install someplace in your path.

Thanks for your reply.
After download the files,I follow the steps in the README.install, I type the command
% ./install
It showes : Installation Completed With No Errors

But next when I type
% cl
It showes : Command not found
(I install iraf in the directory /home/yao/iraf.v261, I type %cl also in this directory, is it OK?)
-----------------------

I do not understand what does the following means:
This will create a private (i.e.user) installation of the IRAF system that supercedes any system installation on the machine. !!
Root permission is NOT required to run the install script. IRAF is immediately avaliable by typing
%cl
%iraf
--------------------------------
When I as root to type
# ./install --system
It also installation completed with no errors,
But when I type
% cl
The same result appeas on the screen of the computer:
Command not found
-----------------------------
Please tell me why?
How to solve it?

Thanks
