I am also having the same problem now. I wonder if you may have found solutions to this?
Or others have answer to this?
Thanks

Dear Fitz,
This problem persists when upgrading to Mojave.
When trying to start xgterm from bash,
Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/xgterm
Reason: image not found
I wonder if you know about solving the iraf launch in Mojave system?
Thanks
Anthony

Hi,
I use the following alias, which works on High Sierra and Mojave
PHP Formatted Code alias xg ="(export DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/X11/lib && /usr/local/bin/xgterm -ls -sb)"
-ls is to launch xgterm a a login shell, -sb for the scrollbar.

It however gives me the following error message
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/x11/lib && /usr/local/bin/xgterm -ls -sb
dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm.4.dylib
Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/xgterm
Reason: image not found

Can you check if you have the libXpm.4.dylib in the /usr/x11/lib/ directory?
This how it shows in my Mac:
PHP Formatted Code inutil :~ root # ls -al /usr/x11/lib/libXpm*
-rwxr -xr -x 1 root wheel 157920 Oct 29 2016 /usr /x11 /lib /libXpm .4 .dylib
lrwxr -xr -x 1 ncaon wheel 14 Nov 2 2016 /usr /x11 /lib /libXpm .dylib -> libXpm.4 .dylib
I think this library (and others required by xgterm) belong to the XQuartz package, so perhaps you might need to update or reinstall it.
