I have been trying to install lacosmic, I followed the instructions on: http://www.astro.wisc.edu/~cigan/reducing/lacos/lacos.html. stsdas had already been installed. So, all I did was download the lacosmic_spec.cl file, put it in a directory, and then added "task lacos_spec=[location]/[filename].cl" to my login.cl.
When I run lacos_spec, I get the following error: "ERROR: task 'lacos_spec' has no param file. There is no param file in the LA cosmic directory and I could only find a .cl file when I was downloading the installation file...
I am using Ubuntu 10.10 and iraf 2.14.1
I am not sure how to solve this? Do I have to manually create a .par file?

The "[location]" and "[filename]" are meant to be substituted with the actual path and filename of the script you're declaring. For example, if the file 'lacosmic_spec.cl" is in your /home/MoIRAF directory the line you should actually put in the login.cl is
task lacos_spec = /home/MoIRAF/lacos_spec.cl
CL scripts usually include their own parameters in the file itself, the "has no param file" error normally indicates a pathfile problem (in your case the literal use of '[location]/[filename]' in the task declaration).

Hello,
thanks for the quick reply.
Apologies for the confusing message - I did use the path on my system where the file is. :
task lacos_spec= /home/moses/iraf-work/LACos/lacos_spec.cl
But I will triple check and investigate whether I've done something silly with the path names.
