HiWhen I run tasks there is no visual output displayed in the terminal. I have set verbose to "yes" and reinit "mkiraf" and deleted the ".par" files. Might be a problem with installation?? Some of the tasks also doesn't want to run properly...Some ideas?Pat

Is this all tasks (e.g. "cl> imstat dev$pix") or just some tasks? Text output or graphics? Do you see the normal 'cl' login menu/motd? Does the normal CL prompt appeat when you type <CR>?If there were an installation problem I'd expect you'd see nothing at all or at least error messages. When you do a MKIRAF do you initialize your uparm or did you delete the .par files from the iraf source tree? What platform, what IRAF version, and is this a system you got from us or somebody else (e.g. SciSoft)? Are you using an XTerm or something else?

HiSorry - should have included these. OS - Fedora 16 x86-64. IRAF v2.16 Doanloaded and installed from IRAF.net mid 2012. Use xterm to run ecl. Had to do a resent (3 months ago) upgrade and reinstall of Fedora and IRAF.Had to implement "reset_new_imt" = no for long lists.Otherwise the system is standard as in previous setup that ran fine without a hitch.

The primary task that I use are phot, daofind and imexamineWhen I run the tasks they do run, but there is no text output showing progress. Also when I run imexamine in interactive mode and use "a" to measure a star it does not show the results and I have to "q" (quit) imexamine and when I run it again the result is only then shown.I do not know if it is the terminal, because I used xgterm to test the system as well, and it did the same thing. I will try a reinstall of IRAF to see if that helps.Hope this info gives some idea as to possible cause...Thanks
Pat

HiDid a reinstall of DS9, XPA and IRAF. Solved issue with imexamine, but daofind and phot still has issues with displaying text progress... ...one thing I also noticed is that most of the default values in the parameter settings is missing... might be the cause of the issues...?Regards

In the case of the DAOPHOT tasks, there are package parameters that are also used by the tasks, e.g. the 'verify' and 'update' params that control some prompts, likewise tasks have an 'interactive' parameter. If you do a MKIRAF and initialize your uparm directory (or start completely from scratch is a directory like /tmp) you'll use all of the default parameters and should see these prompts. Otherwise, I'm not clear on what output you're expecting that isn't appearing. Does the task eventually exit or does it just hand\g?

Hi FitzAt this stage the "problem" seems to be with the DAOPHOT tasks - i.t.o. their default settings that seems to be missing or set incorrectly. CCDRED tasks seems to run fine. Do not know what or how setting for DAOPHOT got messed-up. At this stage it is just a nuisance because of a lack of "progress text during task running", but it is not a system critical error - i.e. everything works fine otherwise if and when I remember to double check that all necessary default values are set in DAOPHOT tasks. Will repost if and when I figure out a cause or solution. Thanks anyway.Regards
Pat
