Hi,I recently installed IRAF v 2.16 on a new Mac running OS10.7.4 (I forget which cat this is!). I can run basic IRAF tasks just fine. But there are a number of problems that crop up.1. When I try to do access help (anything), I get messages about a bunch of package names not being unique, followed by:
PANIC in `/Users/Shared/iraf/iraf/bin.macintel/x_system.e': Memory fwa has been corrupted
ERROR: segmentation violation2. I need to use several mscred tasks; most recently msctpeak. The task starts up OK and I can interact with my display, BUT, when I try to fit a selection of stars I've centered, I get:
ERROR: floating point overflow
"graphics=graphics, cursor=cursor)"
line 209: mscfinder$tpltsol.cl (hidden task)
called as: `tpltsol (image=t70005, table=tmp$iraf3374f.fits, database=coords.db, imupdate=yes, tabupdate=yes, refitcat=yes, dssheader=no, ra_ref=23:56:40.00, dec_ref=62:10:00.00, eq_ref=2000.)'
called as: `tpeak (image=t70005, table=tmp$iraf3374f.fits, database=coords.db, objects=, ra_ref=23:56:40.00, dec_ref=62:10:00.00, eq_ref=2000., update=yes, interactive=yes, autocenter=no, autodisplay=no, boxsize=9, xscale=100., yscale=100., xshift=0, yshift=0, reselect=yes, subsample=1, frame=1, marker=circle, omarker=plus, goodcolor=blue, badcolor=red)'
"goodcolor=goodcolor, badcolor=badcolor)"
line 172: mscfinder$msctpeak.cl
called as: `msctpeak (images=t70005)'I'm sure that I've somehow fouled up the installation or something, but I am such a systems idiot that I really don't know how to fix this.Thanks!

Hi Frank,
I never really resolved the problem described above, but I now have this same machine running IRAF ver 2.15 (newly installed, and which I need for Gemini compatibility) on a Mac, OS10.8. Now, when I try to run the msctpeak (from mscred.mscfinder), it displays the image, but does not mark my catalog stars. I get the following message:
mscfinder> msctpeak
List of WCS calibrated Mosaic images: t10015
List of ra(hr), dec(deg), optional id: m31_ucac4_hrs.txt
Database for astrometric fit (coord_data):
ERROR: Table `/tmp/iraf207f' does not exist or cannot be opened.
"goodcolor=goodcolor, badcolor=badcolor)"
line 172: mscfinder$msctpeak.cl
called as: `msctpeak ()'So I then tried installing nfextern, as you suggested above, and repeating the process. I then opened up a new IRAF window, navigate to nfextern and then try msctpeak from that package, it displays the image, marks the stars, and allows me to center them. But then when I hit "f" to do a fit, I get a different message, essentially the same one that I reported in my post above, from December.msctpeak is a great routine--very helpful--so I hope you can help me sort this out.Thanks,
Frank W.
