Hi,I'm trying to create BPM using regions with ds9 and I can't figure it out. I'm pretty sure I'm just missing something obvious. I'm doing surface photometry and I want to mask out the bright stars in the near vicinity of my object. I've saved my regions in ds9 as .reg files and tried running them through text2mask and badpiximage, but the resulting masks are just flat images. The regions I've marked haven't been marked as bad. What's the mistake I've made? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm using V2.14
Cheers

Exactly what is in the .reg file you created? Note that DS9 regions use keywords such as [code:1:ca93a6099c]circle <x> <y> <radius>[/code:1:ca93a6099c]whereas a task like text2mask does simple points or rectangles and expects only center/corner pixel positions. There may be other tasks more suited to creating the mask file within IRAF, in general support for DS9 regions files is pretty sparse. See for example OBJMASK or MSKEXPR or MSKREGIONS (or other tasks listed by a "cl> refer mask" command).

The .reg file looks like this
[code:1:a116ac91bd]
circle(x,y,radius)
[/code:1:a116ac91bd]mskregions worked with the DS9 regions. Thanks!
