I have installed the latest version of iraf on a Mac 10.6.3 machine. Things seem to work fine except for the implot routine. Running inside an xgterm, I run the command "implot dev$pix" and the plot comes up, but my xgetrm freezes and I cannot go any further. Killing the plot display doesn't help. I have to kill the xgetrm and restart. Has anybody else had this happen?

This is the third report in a week of problems with IMPLOT, but the task hasn't changed and we don't see any issues here.If you are using the 'macosx' architecture (e.g. do a "show arch" in the CL) the be aware that the v2.15.1 binaries were rebuilt yesterday to fix a potential problem with this platform. If you installed this patch before yesterday, please install it again to pick up this change and let me know if the problem continues.Otherwise, do you see the same problem when using an XTerm instead of an XGterm (i.e. is this a problem in the task or the terminal)? BY 'freeze' do you mean the crosshairs don't move or the task just doesn't take any input commands? Do you see similar problems with other graphics tasks?

I am using the "macosx" arch; just to make sure I had the latest build, I downloaded and reinstalled within the past hour. The problem is still there. By "freeze" I mean that the task doesn't take any input commands; the terminal is just frozen. From what little I have tried, this seems to be a problem only with implot. By the way, just using an xterm is really weird. When I execute the command "implot dev$pix" all I get is a bunch of meaningless text and a frozen xterm. I probably just don't have some setting right.

There have been several reports of problems with IMPLOT however I can't reproduce it in any way. To be sure we're running the same binary, could you post the output of the command: [code:1:ff85757843]cl> dir bin$x_plot.e long+[/code:1:ff85757843]
Also, could you confirm that you are running this in either an XTerm or XGterm window (with the appropriate terminal setting in your login.cl file) and not something like a Terminal.app? Could you also post the output of a "uname -a" command (from outside of iraf)? Can you bring up a graphics cursor with a simple "=gcur" command at the CL prompt? Do tasks like IMSTAT also fail or is it just graphics tasks?

dir bin$x_plot.e long+ produces:xb-rwr-r- dwwatson 4706268 Feb 3 11:56 bin$x_plot.erun from an xgterm, with "stty xgterm" in my login.cl.uname -a from Terminal.app produces:
Darwin M965611-Mac.local 10.3.0 Darwin Kernel Version 10.3.0: Fri Feb 26 11:58:09 PST 2010; root nu-1504.3.12~1/RELEASE_I386 i386"=gcur" brings up the graphics cursor fine, but the terminal windows freezes after hitting return, without displaying the prompt.IMSTAT and everything else I have tried so far seems to work.

I'm still unable to reproduce the problem. Do you see the same thing when using an 'xterm' window and setting? I still can't tell whether this is a problem in the xgterm or the graphics task.Does something like "cl> prow dev$pix 23 dev=vdm; gflush" also produce a segmentation violation? If this works as above but fail when actually displaying graphics, it may point to an xgterm problem.

When I execute the command "implot dev$pix" in na normal xterm all I get is a bunch of meaningless text and a frozen xterm."cl> prow dev$pix 23 dev=vdm; gflush" returns to the cl prompt but nothing else.

If you're using an XTerm you need to reset the terminal type in iraf first, e.g.[code:1:944b8c6a16]cl> stty xtermjh
cl> implot dev$pix
[/code:1:944b8c6a16]You won't see the full-screen cursor but if the task then works then it looks like it is an xgterm issue.

I just tried "prow dev$pix" and the plot window came up fine and I got the next cl prompt; no frozen xgterm.

I just tried again with an xterm after setting "stty xtermjh". The plot window came up, but I got no new cl prompt in the xterm. I can cntl-c and get the prompt back, but the plot window is now frozen.

Just to be clear.....Were you using an Xterm with an 'stty xtermjh' setting, or an XGterm with an 'stty xtermjh' setting?? The latter will work and give you a B&W plot and fullscreen cursor.
