HiIn order to make a program work, I need to truncate the fits header. For that I need to know how many bits I have to cut off the original fits-file.
Any idea how I can find that out? I thought vi or emac might do that, but how?cheers

I assume you're trying to just get a binary file of the pixel data, in that case have a look at the EXPORT task in DATAIO (see help page examples). For text output, see LISTPIXELS or WTEXTIMAGE.
