I downloaded gunn stryker spectra from ftp://ftp.stsci.edu/cdbs/grid/gunnstryker/ Is there a way to splot these? I get this error when I try:onedspec> splot /home/stoughto/das/gunnstryker/gs_1.fits
ERROR: MWCS: dimension mismatch (mw_open)and a suggestion from a previous question has a similar issue:
onedspec> wcsreset /home/stoughto/das/gunnstryker/gs_1.fits wcs=world
ERROR: MWCS: dimension mismatch (mw_open)Is there a way to splot these files? Thanks.

The FITS file are MEF files contain a BINTABLE extension with the data in 5 columns, SPLOT is not able to directly read these files and interpret them as spectra. An alternative is to instead download the .ascii files which contain a simple text list of wavelength/intensity; You can then use the RSPECTEXT task to read these to produce a FITS file with a spectral dispersion that SPLOT can use. Other than size information there doesn't appear to be anything in the .fits headers you'd be missing out on.
