Hi,I'm currently working on extracting the spectral broadening due to doppler effect and pressure broadening which can be modelled by gaussian and lorentzian profiles. Is it possible to seperate the two effects in an absorption line? The biggest issue i have come across is the lack of documents describing fitting profiles.Does anyone know a place where i can find such documents.thank you.

It sounds like what you want is to fit a Voigt profile, which is a combination of Gaussian and Lorentzian profiles (see e.g. wikipedia). Both SPLOT and the FITPROFS task can be used to fit this type of profile, I can't really comment on how you might determine how much of the profile is due to pressure effects.
