I am using an echelle spectra. Is there a way to change apertures in FXCOR interactively? Like the way you change the fitting function by typing
:func center1d Doing a "?" in the interactive window gave me a the following keyword: :apertures I then tried ":apertures 7" in order to change to aperture 7 but instead it asked for a filename? Just entering :apertures does nothing. I basically want to just switch to a different aperture instead of quiting FXCOR, doing an epar to change the aperture every time. Thanks!

The 'apertures' parameter can be specified as a command delimited list of range strings, e.g.[code:1:84934f6502] "1,3,5-9,11,13-17"[/code:1:84934f6502]and needn't be just a single value. When you do it like this you can use the 'n' keystroke to move to the next aperture in the list automatically, and when the aperture list reaches its end you move to the next image with a fresh list.Using the ":apertures" command with an argument causes the list to be reset and the image re-opened. I'm not sure why you'd see an image name prompt, but let me know if the above doesn't solve your problem.-Mike

Hello Mike, The solution you stated works except that the first time you hit "n", the program asks the user for "root output filename". Giving it a random name (say test) and saving it, the program lets the user toggle between apertures using the "n" and the "p" keys. Opening the text file called "test" I notice that it saves the parameters such as VHELIO, VREL..etc. by aperture. So, it seems pretty convenient. I suppose I will change the name "test" to a more meaning full name. ThanksRohit
