Hello all,
I am trying to run gim2d in iraf on a new computer and I am getting odd
errors and I am hoping someone might have some insight.
The first time I ran the routine I got the error "abnormal termination of
child process "??""
then typed in "flpr" and ran the routine again and got this error "too
many child processes"This routine works on my other computer without any errors. I am
frustrated. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

What kind of computer is this (and the old one)? An 'abnormal termination' message usually means there was an error in tryiing to start the binary, e.g. a missing shared library, wrong architecture binary, etc. If you start the binary from the unix prompt sometimes the host message is more meaningful, i.e. try[code:1:25d2e46dba]cl> fuzzy
cl> gim2d
cl> cd fuzzybin$
cl> !x_gimfit2d.e
cl> !ldd x_gimfit2d.e # find shared libs (linux systems)
[/code:1:25d2e46dba]A normal startup will show '>' as a prompt (type 'bye' to quit), otherwise please post the error messages.Sources for GIM2D aren't released by the author so your platform may not be supported, check the gim2d website for know issues.Cheers,
-Mike

Thanks for replying. What do the last two commands you sent me do? The computer is not finding those commands.I am running this on a Mac Powerbook G4 PowerPC on OS 10.5. I installed the iraf version 2.2.1 for Sun Sparc Solaris 5.6 (since I did not think the redhat ones for x86 were appropriate). Was this the wrong version? My old comp is running fine on Ubuntu. By the way I get this error when running gscripter or gimfit2d.A second strange thing is more routines are listed in the gim2d package on my old (Ubuntu) computer than in gim2d on the laptop. This makes me think there might be other issues/differences.Thanks.

Basically I was trying to get you to cd to the bin directory of the package and execute the binary at the unix level. Try "!./x_giimfit2d.e" to be more explicit, the 'ldd' command isn't known on OSX systems so you can ignore it.[quote:25b7dbbeb8]

The message means you cannot run Sun binaries on a Mac PPC system, is just isn't recognized. You'll need to find Mac binaries for the package at the web site (or do a forum search on 'gim2d' at the banner bar, I think somebody asked about this recently).[quote:25b7dbbeb8]
