I was trying to install the xdimsum package. I changed extern.pkg as necessary, and when I tried opening iraf to install the package, I got the error:[quote:5242d5c277]

Error while reading login.cl file - may need to rebuild with mkiraf
Fatal startup error. CL dies.

Most likely the error is in the 'helpdb' string for the extern.pkg file, i.e. you didn't escape a newline with a backslash, there's a space after the backslash, or you deleted the end-quote.-Mike
