Mike, et al---I just recently started using an Intel Mac. I am having problems though
when I go to an imt8192. I did a fresh install of ximtool, and the
problem persists. Heres's what happens.1) When I first fire up ximtool-alt I get the following error message: Error in message to server, line 1: invalid command name: "menubar"
while executing
"menubar Toggle mYflipButton\
menubar Command mPrevButton\
menubar MenuButton mFrameButton\
menubar Command mNextButton\
menubar Toggle to ..."
Warning: No frame buffer configuration file found.2) If I then go to display an 8292x8400 image with stdimage=imt4096, it displays fine, although I do get the
"Warning: No frame buffer configuration file found."
If instead I change to
imt8192 and go to display, the stars look like a set of horizontal lines
(with gaps in between and I get a zillioin

reinstall X11IRAF from scratch when i first noticed this problem.thanks,

hi Phil,The 'no imtool configuration file' means there isn't a /usr/local/lib/imtoolrc link pointing to dev$imtoolrc. This is normally done by the install script (I'm not sure how Scisoft handles it though), an alternative is to copy the dev$imtoolrc file to ".imtoolrc" in your home directory. That should fix the imt8192 problem. As for the other message, I've never seen it before. Do you get the same message using 'ximtool' rather than 'ximtool-alt'? The alt version is the same binary but uses a different GUI file to provide the menubar. The message is in the part of the code that simply defines the widgets to be used which makes me think the offset in the script to the GUI file is wrong, i.e. if you look at the script there is a 'SKIP' parameter that is the number of lines in the script before the start of the GUI. Either that number is wrong, or the 'tail' command isn't working. Newer versions of 'tail' require it be used as "tail -n +$SKIP $0" instead of the command (w/out the -n) in the script now, although I've never see it on Mac being a problem. Anyway, hope this helps.Cheers,
-Mike

Mike,Indeed, even after I downloaded the standard X11IRAF tar ball (macosx)
from the IRAF
site, and ran the install task, there was no /usr/local/lib/imtoolrc link.
I copied over dev$ximtoolrc to my home direcotry, and the no configuration
file error message disappeared, as you suggested. As for the other, you are right. ximtool doesn't give me the error
message. However, editing the "tail" command to include the -n had
no effect; I still get:Error in message to server, line 1: invalid command name: "menubar"
while executing
"menubar Toggle mYflipButton\
menubar Command mPrevButton\
menubar MenuButton mFrameButton\
menubar Command mNextButton\
menubar Toggle to ..."SKIP is set to 99 in my version.---phil

Try changing it to 79 instead. Looking at the version I have line 99 of the ximtool-alt script is indeed in the middle of the GUI file so the value is probably wrong. In my dev version the alt gui is now the default so I haven't noticed until now.-Mike
