Hi fellow IRAF users, I'm a student astronomer, and I'm working from my laptop, accessing a server in the department remotely through Cygwin. For the last month, everything has worked fine with access the server. I'd start cygwin, type "startx", then I'd logon to the server with "ssh -X -Y username@server". But recently, the server was moved to a different room. When I tried to access it, I got the whole slew of "man-in-the-middle-of-attack" messages, telling me the host key had changed. It also said I needed to correct the known_hosts file. So, I deleted the old known_hosts file. So, now I can login to the server, but I get a message: "bind: command not found" that I didn't get in past times connecting. I also get the following error message when trying to open an xgterm:Owner@mypc ~
$ ssh -X -Y username@server
username@server's password:
Warning: No xauth data; using fake authentication data for X11 forwarding.

bind: Command not found.
[server:~]% xgterm -sb&

CORRECT>xterm -sb& (y|n|e|a)? no
xgterm: Command not found.
The IT guys in the dept. aren't here today. Anybody have any idea about what going on? Thanks.

The 'command not found' messages mean your path environment variable doesn't include the location of either the 'bind' or 'xgterm' commands. The 'bind' is probably being used to define the backspace key and is a bash built-in command, however xgterm is a standalone binary that was probably put into /usr/local/bin or some such place. My guess is that when the machine was moved your account login directory may have somehow changed, and so the .login or .bashrc or .cshrc files aren't being found properly.-Mike
