I today installed the latest cygwin on my Windows XP laptop. I am trying to install the xdimsum package following the installation instructions on http://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/ftp/iraf/extern/xdimsum020627/xdimsum.readmeWhen I get to the mkpkg command, it tells me "command not found." I looked at the irafuser.csh file and it has an alias for mkpkg in the right directory path, and the login.cl file in my user home directory tasks the mkpkg command. One problem (that I don't know how to solve) is that the cygwin came installed with the bash shell as the default, while the installation instructions are in tcsh. To execute the setenv commands in the instructions, I just typed tcsh at the prompt, but I later noticed that there was no .cshrc file in my home directory. Could that be the problem, and if so, what should I put in the .cshrc file to fix the problemThanks for your patience with this linux newbie.Lionel

A 'command not found' usually just means the 'local bin directory' (typically /usr/local/bin) is not in your default command search path. If you've already got tcsh installed the simplest thing is to just copy the $iraf/local/.cshrc file to your cygwin login directory and you should have all the definitions you need. You can type "source ~/.cshrc" within a tcsh to load the settings in that file, a "rehash" command may then be necessary as well. Then, just try "which mkpkg" to see whether the command is found properly.Another explanation is due to an improper installation or architecture setting, but these are less likely. I can supply DIMSUM pkg binaries if you need them. Hope this helps.Cheers,
-Mike
