Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm using fedora core 6 and i installed the files which names start with iraf, iraf-config and put the xgterm.fedora to the /usr/local/bin directory.
After that
#mv xgterm.fedora xgterm
#chmod -R 777 xgterm
#xgterm
and on the xgterm console
#mkiraf
# bash: /iraf/iraf/unix/hlib/mkiraf.csh there is no such a file or directory
so it doesn't work....
As you see i'm new in iraf. So could you explain it for a rookie ?
Thank you

I assume this was an installation from an RPM file of some kind? Which one?The 'mkiraf' command is a symlink to the $iraf/unix/hlib/mkiraf.csh file; The /iraf/iraf part of the path is the standard value of the iraf root directory, but this could be anything. Without knowing how the RPM file setup the system, I can't say whether it installed the system someplace else, failed to make the proper link, or perhaps was built missing some files. What is the value of $iraf in your environment? Does that directory exist on your machine? What is in that directory?Cheers,
-Mike

1. i installed these rpm files; iraf-2.12.2p2-5.fc4_tep.i386.rpm , iraf-config-2.12.2p2-3.fc4_tep.i386.rpm
I got these messages while installing the rpms
error: iraf-config-2.12.2p2-3.fc4_tep.i386.rpm: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID ea46a458
error: it's unsuccessful while opening archive package /iraf/iraf/images/lib/geomap.x; 468c3d1 : MD5 sum may not be true in file...
2. And as i said i'm not familiar to linux and iraf how will i find the value of $iraf ? Because there is no one to help me in iraf except this forum.
3. I know iraf is for reading and writing the fits files but can i get iraf to read fits image files pixel by pixel with finding the changes of star magnitudes in two or three image which were taken at same night?
thank you

Right, and you are missing 'pkg', 'sys', and 'unix' from that list...all of which are crucial to IRAF starting at all. Examine any errors from the RPM file (or contact their publisher for help) to be sure you have a complete insstall, or use the download files/instructions provided by this site.
