Are there any plans to have IRAF support spaces in file names?Jason

Not in particular, but if 49 of your friends write in with the same request we might consider it more seriously. Do you have a particular problem in mind that this would solve (that not creating files with spaces at the host level wouldn't also solve)??-Mike

I personally try to always avoid spaces in directory and file names but not everyone adheres to this. If data or its pathname has spaces, it has to be copied at the shell level and renamed. It's fairly common for USB thumbdrives and external hardrives to have spaces in their root folder name (e.g. the "My Book" series, etc.) these days. Not any serious problem but an annoyance not infrequently encountered. I can see how this "small change" might have many disastrous consequences in terms of IRAF's design, so I was just curious if it had been considered.Jason

It [b:f4bf9567ed]has[/b:f4bf9567ed] been considered, that's why it hasn't/won't be done lightly. Personally, I just create a symlink w/out the space at the host level and navigate in iraf through those instead (i.e. "cl> !ln -s My\ Book MyBook").-Mike
