Hello,
I am having some difficulty installing iraf in a Mac OSX
environment. I have installed the iraf packages as well the external
binaries. I have X11, and ds9 working properly. However, I can't get
iraf itself working. I am using the iraf button. Every time I try to
launch iraf I get a message that the path is not defined coreectly. I
cannot determine how to do this. I also called your hotline number
and left my number. I would prefer to converse over phone, if possible.
Thank You,
Ken Foand

I'll need some more information to comment in detail. For instance, what path is being complained about? Does it happen only with the iraf button, or with the 'cl' command as well? Did you use the pkg installer from the macsingularity site or this one?I've never used the IRAF button and can't really help with problems there, but in general you should have to define anything special in order to simply run IRAF with a 'cl' command. The default iraf path is normally /iraf/iraf, if you're using something else please post the path. Otherwise, check the path on the IRAF button panel to see whether you might be confusing the IRAF path with the path to the directory you use to run iraf (i.e. the one with the login.cl and uparm directory). You need to run MKIRAF to create the login.cl file, maybe this is all you're missing? Hope this helps.-Mike

Yeah, more details would be helpful. The IRAF Button launches an xgterm, which changes directory to whatever is in the "IRAF PATH" field and then launches the cl. If there's no login.cl file there, IRAF will give the standard "no login.cl file" warning. If you could give the exact text of the problem and whether it's displayed in the xgterm or in the IRAF Button itself... that'd be a start.

I have installed IRAF on mac (Macbook pro 2.16 GHz) from macsingularity. IRAF works perfectly so does DS9. But I cannot access DS9 through IRAF. Typically one types in the X11 window the following before starting iraf:
xgterm &
ds9 &Now the xgterm window opens and I can run IRAF. But the "ds9 &" command gives me the following error: [2] 660
bash: ds9: command not found
[2]+ Exit 127 ds9Because of this I cannot use commands like "display" and "imexam". The DS9 application is kept in the "Application folder" while the iraf is in "home".
