Iam a student doing Master. Iam interested in reducing images.

Iam contacting you about a point, and I hope you will help me:
Iam starting working (with IRAF),
which is not so easy for me!, on some images to reduce them.
I found a problem: the images I have, image object+flat+bias, are
all with negative counts....(a cursor on the image shows always
negative numbers lower than -31500 (like -31562...ect)).
I dont know how to do now and how to solve this problem.
I am also asking if I multiply all images with a number
if I will then make the reduction and results not correct.
please help me with this. I cant find documents on the web
about this problem.
another thing I would appreciate from you is to show me
if possible how to deal with reduction with IRAF in an
easy way (if you have some simplified tutorials for example...ect)
