I'm planning on getting a new laptop soon and am eyeing up the new Macbook Pro. I do need to run IRAF, however, and have some misgivings if it's not entirely recommended on mac intel. I know there's been a successful port but haven't heard/read from too many people about it one way or the other. So either it works great outside the minor bugs I've read about on the forums, or not too many people are using it. Are there anymore statistics to date? Would a Linux laptop be a better choice? It may only come down to personal preference, but I thought I'd ask for opinions. Laura

Ultimately the decision is yours, and I'd have to compile numbers from the download logs but there are easily more than 100 MacIntel systems out there. For the record, IRAF for OSX, Linux and Cygwin is currently being
developed on a single MacBook Pro (the latter two using Parallels for virtual machines) and aside from a sometimes-squeeky spacebar I dont' have any complaints about the machine or the system. Bugs reported in the new ports so far are certainly no worse than for linux (but this is certainly a good thread for people to say differently!)Cheers,
-Mike
