I am trying to do a multi-fiber spectroscopic reduction using the specred package. I am using a 293 fiber system and there is moderate curvature of the spectral lines. I am encountering a problem when re-identifying spectral lines from my first arc spectrum...when I run dofibers the identify task starts with trace #146 and proceeds 145,144...2,1,147,148,149...290. The problem is the jump from 1 to 147 because there is a large shift at that point. I have tried setting the identify.section="first line" so it starts with the first trace and proceeds along the lines such that the change is continuosly small, however it always starts with #146 and also appears to sum 10 fibers. I have enclosed a .jpg of the comp.ms.fits image for reference. I would greatly appreciate any insight for resolving my dilemma. Thank You,

Hello Andy,First, the order in which you see the steps being done does not specifically mean that it is carrying over from last fiber. In particular the jump from 1 to 147 almost certainly does not mean that it is using the positions from 1 to start on 147. However, there are other parameters that may be affecting things. If you would like to send me a parameter listing (e.g. lpar reidentify specred) I might see something in what you are doing. This would be a first step. If it is still not obvious I would need to try this myself on some data you supply.Frank Valdes
