Congrats on the slick web page, very efficient way of building up a Q&A dbase.I have a problem with fitsutil.fxinsert - basically it does not do what I want. The "help" examples are rather unhelpful as you don't know how the input and output files used in the examples are generated. Why not use the one image that comes with IRAF? Here is my query in those terms:# make two files without extention
imcopy dev$pix newfile
imcopy dev$pix a
imcopy dev$pix b
fxinsert a.fits newfile[1]
fxinsert b.fits newfile[2]
# Looks like example 3 in help but does not work. why?
# I have no idea, since I do not know what has been done
# to the files in example 3. Using dev$pix in a (working!) example
# would be much more illuminating, not only here but in
# many help menus. Just a suggestion.

Hi Nigel,Thanks for the comments and suggestion. Nelson will see this and can make any changes to the help pages. I think what you're after is accomplished with FXCOPY, see the first example in the help page or write back if you still have questions.Cheers,
-Mike
