I've checked the extern.cfg file for correct path or permission but when i try to use guiapps package this error appears:ERROR: task `guiapps' has no param fileWhat can I do? My OS is a Kubuntu linux distro with the last version of Iraf and X11Thanks

Be sure the path definition has a trailing '/' char. Also be sure that the very last line of the file is 'keep' so the definitions are retained. I assume it was a type, but the file is 'extern.pkg' not 'extern.cfg'. The message means that somehow the path is either wrong or not defined.-Mike

thanks, a "/" was missing at the end of the path, now if i run guiapps with xgterm i can't see the images, could it be due to 8 bit depth? If i run it on xterm it returns a very long series of error messages without starting any window

Yes, XGTerm is required for the package, XTerm won't do at all. Imaging tasks like XGUIPHOT have the 8-bit problem, search the forums for the standard workarounds. However, XRV and SPECTOOL should still work.-Mike
