 Setting "imextn"

Many instruments (at Lowell) are outputting FITS files with just numeric extensions e.g.,  imageroot.123
IRAF can recognize these by adding  "???"  to the  "imextn" definition in loginuser.cl, but it there a
was to modify this so that only numbers are included ... e.g., so that IRAF will not attempt to include, say
.dat files in a list. I tried :   reset imextn="fxf:fit,fits,FIT,[0-9][0-9][0-9]"    and   "![0-9]![0-9]![0-9]"   ... neither work.
Cheers, -- Ed

Hello Ed;

       I am not sure there is an easy solution on our part to solve this problem. It would require modifications to the imio interface which we do not have resources to allocate at this time.

       My suggestion would be to modify somehow the output from the instrument software or just rename the files to something like 'file_123.fits'.

Please let us know if you have other thougts.

Thanks,
Nelson Zarate

Thanks Nelson, Personally, I prefer  ".fits" extensions.  But I don't have control over other observatories outputs Smile I was just making sure that I had not missed some sort of "syntactical" scheme in setting "imextn". Cheers, -- Ed At 08:13 AM 10/24/2005, you wrote:
